Frequently Asked Questions

How does one afford the needed care? |
| Private Pay | Private pay is when you or your family pays for the assisted living facility. If you have the resources, this is one way to get the care you need. |
| ALTCS | ALTCS (Arizona Long Term Care System), requires that you meet certain financial and medical eligibility requirements. ALTCS will then only pay for ALTCS contracted homes. For more information visit the ALTCS website. |
| Medicare | Medicare does not generally pay for long term care. Medicare pays only for medically necessary skilled nursing facility or home health care. However, you must meet certain conditions for Medicare to pay for these types of care. Medicare does not pay for daily "custodial" care. See the Medicare website for more information. |
Long Term |
Long-term care insurance will pay the contracted rate listed in your policy but only if your family member and the home meet the eligibility requirements in the policy. Call us! We would be happy to help you determine what your policy will cover. We are familiar with most long-term care policies and can help guide you as you make your choices. |
| Private Health Care Insurance |
Health care insurance does not pay for you or your family member's living expenses. It may continue to pay for health care related expenses. |
| Reverse Mortgage | The National Council on Aging's Use Your Home to Stay at Home™ initiative is a public-private partnership that encourages the appropriate use of home equity to help older people live at home. We can help you navigate reverse mortgage possibilities that may allow you to stay at home and get the care you need. Visit the National Council on Aging's website for more information. |

what should I expect from an assisted living facility? |
| Room & Board | Usually, room and board is included in the monthly cost. Medications, personal care products, incontinence supplies, and some transportation are additional costs. |
| Temporary Illness | Assisted living homes and centers are licensed by the State of Arizona for a specific level of care. If you or your family member has a temporary illness that requires that you leave the home for hospitalization you can return to the same facility. Our team works to help you find a home that will meet your current and future needs so that you will not have to move again. |
| Transportation | Transportation varies from facility to facility, with some providing transportation to doctor's appointments while others don't. We'll help you find a facility to best suit your transportation needs. We also work with physician groups that will visit you or your loved one in the assisted living facility. |
| Therapy Needs | Home based therapy (physical, occupational and speech) can be provided in an assisted living home or center if your doctor determines that it is necessary and your insurance policy will pay for the cost. |
| Depleting Financial Resources | If you deplete your financial resources and become eligible for ALTCS, you may have to change facilities unless the facility you are in is ALTCS contracted. If you do need to move, we can help you find an appropriate facility and aid in your transition. |
